Pike Creek Double Barrelled Port Cask Finish 5cl
Let’s delve into the Pike Creek Double Barrelled Port Cask Finish whisky.
Pike Creek is a Canadian whisky that has seen its fair share of transformations. Here’s what you need to know about this particular expression:
Background:
Pike Creek was part of a revival of Canadian whisky brands, alongside Lot 40 and Gooderham & Worts.
From 2012 to around 2016, it was available as a 10-year-old Port Finish edition in Canada and a Port Finish edition (aged 7 years) in the US (though the age wasn’t disclosed on the label).
The US version was younger due to anticipated high demand, but both editions were eventually discontinued and replaced by a single 10-year-old Rum Finish edition.
Pike Creek is crafted at the Hiram Walker plant in Windsor, Ontario, and is now owned by Pernod Ricard.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: The aroma is a bit of a rollercoaster. Initially, you’ll encounter fruit punch. The fruit notes lean more toward fruit-flavored candy.
Palate: The body is syrupy, with mild tongue burn. There’s a welcome wood note (oak sugars), along with hints of aspartame and candy.
Finish: Medium-long, warming, with a touch of caramel and oak.
