An old black ceramic decanter of Ballantine's 17-year-old dating most likely from the 1980s or very early 1990s when the remarkable (some might say inexplicable) trend for bottling whisky in pottery was at its peak.

This 75cl ceramic jug was one of several of these two-handled decanters that were bottled in different colours predominantly for export markets. The whisky itself was bottled at 43% and would have been distilled most likely in the late 1960s or early to mid 1970s. Ballantine's from this era is amazing stuff, and the 17-year-old is one of the standout blended whiskies from the time.

Ballantine's 17 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a well-regarded blend with a rich history and complex flavor profile. Here are some tasting notes:

Color: Golden amber.

Nose: Initial sherry sweetness, followed by tropical fruit notes like pineapple and banana. Hints of oak and cereal add complexity.

Palate: Incredibly smooth with creamy oak and spice. Vanilla sweetness is balanced with subtle smoke.

Finish: Long and lingering with fruit, sweetness, oak, and spice.

This whisky is known for its balance and intricate layers, making it a favorite among whisky enthusiasts
