The amazing Dominique Roger manages Domaine du Carrou in Bué, one of the 14 communes in the Centre-Val de Loire that is located in the Sancerre appellation. Since the 17th century, 8 generations of the Roger family have produced wines in the Bué area of Sancerre, which is known for exceptional terroir and producing complex wines.
This is the first time in years I was able to get my hands on enough of the winery’s renowned Rose to do more than offer a few bottles at the restaurant. This year, I locked in early, securing a gorgeous, sophisticated wine that dazzles and leaves you begging for more.
While Sancerre is very well known for its white wines, the village is also home to some of France’s most delicate and pretty rosés. The class of Pinot Noir shines through in these wines which are beautifully underpinned by vibrant acidity. If only there were more of them. This example is the palest salmon pink in colour and impresses thanks to its fine and delicate fruits. White strawberry and raspberry aromas are given extra interest thanks to a chalky undertow.
The palate is then dry, juicy and lightweight with a silky texture and flavours of rose petal and spice before a lingering and fine finish.
Bright and intense color with gold highlights distilling elegant and discreet citrus aromas (pink grapefruit and lemon), but especially yellow peach. An ideal acidity carried by a beautifully structured frame, its refreshing notes of pear in syrup, give it a certain pleasure to the palate.
This wine goes well with white meats or cold meats (same smoked), smoked salmon and any summer or exotic menu
