2015 Cypres de Climens 35cl Barsac
Château Climens, owned by the Lurton family since 1971, is undoubtedly one of the world's greatest fortified wines. Its vineyard stretches over 30 hectares of Sémillon and the vines have an average age of 35 years.
Château Climens is a wine producer located in the Sauternes village of Barsac on the left bank of the Gironde river, south of Bordeaux. It was classified as a first growth in the 1885 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac alongside other châteaux such as Guiraud and Suduiraut. Climens is one of only a handful of châteaux in Bordeaux that produces its wines from only one grape: Semillon. The wine is characterized by fresh citrus notes, white flowers and spice, which becomes more honeyed and concentrated with age. Cyprès de Climes is the second wine of this iconic château of the vineyard of Barsac. Although it is not produced every year, it is very popular as more accessible than its older brother.
This wine is made from grapes that have been affected by a fungus called botrytis. This causes the grapes to shrivel and concentrates their sugars resulting in lusciously sweet wines with great complexity and ageing potential.
Climens is one of the top wineries of Barsac, which, along with the famed Sauternes, are the best-known sweet wine appellations in Bordeaux. This is a luscious sweet wine with an explosion of ripe pear, candied apricot, grapefruit, and orange rind flavours along with hints of nutmeg, honey, caramel, and minerals. The sweetness is not at all cloying, thanks to a balancing acidity.
