El Telar means ‘the loom’: a rich weave of Spanish & French flavours.

El Telar means “the loom” and this weaves a rich tapestry indeed. The threads used are the chunky local Monastrell grape variety, handpicked from a tiny plot of 65 year old vines, entwined with a Gallic twist from a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 months in French oak. Expertly woven together into a tight but silky smooth fabric of black fruit flavours, jellybeans, Alicante sunshine and souk spices.

Bodegas Vinessens El Telar 2014 is a red wine from the Alicante DO (Denominación de Origen) in Spain, made primarily from the Monastrell grape.

The wine has a deep, rich ruby color, with intense hues that hint at its concentration and age.

On the nose, it's aromatic and complex, with notes of ripe black fruits like blackberries, dark cherries, and plums. There’s a touch of floral character, as well as spicy undertones of black pepper, herbs, and a subtle hint of oak-derived vanilla and toasted wood.

The wine is full-bodied, offering a well-structured and balanced profile. The ripe fruit flavors are complemented by earthy nuances and a touch of leather. The tannins are smooth but present, providing a good grip without overpowering the wine’s elegance. There’s a lingering minerality, with hints of dried herbs and a touch of cocoa on the finish.

The finish is long and smooth, with the fruity, herbal, and earthy flavors lingering, leaving a lasting impression of balance and complexity.

Overall, the 2014 vintage of El Telar is a well-rounded wine with a good blend of fruit, spice, and earthy flavors, showcasing the potential of the Monastrell grape and the terroir of Alicante. It should continue to develop well with age, but it’s also quite enjoyable now.
