2000s The Balvenie - Founder's Reserve - Speyside - 10 year old 40% vol

A classic Speyside malt, fruity, malty and medium bodied. Very collectible.

Colour: Sraw.

Nose: Quite smoky with some burnt cake, breadcrumb, caramel… Some nice flowery notes (heather) and quite a lot of honeyed notes. Gets a little grassy after a moment, while some nice hints of fresh fruits (apple, gooseberry, peach) appear. Nicely balanced and most enjoyable.

Mouth: Very nice attack on honey and fruit jam (apricot, quince). Herbal tea, Christmas cake… Some liquorice too. It’s got quite some oomph and I like the notes of dried herbs from Provence (thyme, rosemary).

The finish is medium long but nicely honeyed and spicy.

This whisky is known for its balance of sweet and spicy flavors, making it a popular choice among whisky enthusiasts.

The Founders Reserve became part of the Balvenie core lineup in the 1980's, originally presented in a cognac style bottle until Balvenie arrived at their now familiar bottle silhouette. It was discontinued around 2009. 

The Founders Reserve is comprised of spirit that has been matured for at least 10 years in ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks before being vatted together and then bottled. It is bottled at 40% abv.
