1996 Chateau Rieussec 1er Cru Classe Sauternes
1996 Chateau Rieussec 1er Cru Classe Sauternes
Deep golden color with intriguing aromas of dried apricot, spices, marmalade, and candied pineapple. On the palate, it’s powerful with intense fruit, spice, and botrytis notes, yet not overly sweet, finishing with a tangy touch.
Chateau Rieussec is known for producing wines with rich aromas of honey, pastry, and marmalade, and they typically have a medium body with great acidity and a really long finish.
This should give you a general idea of what to expect from the 1996 vintage.
Chateau Rieussec has a rich history that dates back to its founding by Carmelite monks. During the French Revolution, the estate was confiscated and later sold at auction to the Marheilhac family in around 1790. The estate is located in the village of Fargues in Sauternes, neighboring the prestigious Château d’Yquem. Since 1985, it has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild.
The winery is renowned for its sweet white wines, which are ranked as Premier Cru Classé in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
