1990s Ballantines 21 Year Old
1990s Ballantines 21 Year Old
This whisky is extremely smooth, making it easy to drink even for those new to high-proof spirits. It's no wonder this is one of the top three blended whiskies.(Johnnie Walker, Royal Salute, Ballantine's) It seems the master blender aimed for ultimate smoothness. Jokingly, I could probably finish 100ml in 30 minutes! This might truly be the ultimate sipping whisky.
Nose: Barley, hay, oatmeal chocolate, watermelon rind, cucumber, red apple
The aroma is very pleasant and sweet without any alcohol burn. There's a slight musty newspaper scent typical of old bottles. The first scents are barley and hay, followed by the nutty aroma of oatmeal chocolate. You can also detect the cool notes of watermelon rind and cucumber, likely influenced by the grain, and a hint of ripe red apple.
Taste: Chocolate, oatmeal, persimmon, jujube, wheat, cucumber
As expected from the aroma, it's smooth and easy to drink. The nutty flavors of chocolate and oatmeal gently fill the mouth. There are firm sweet notes of persimmon and jujube with slight moisture. The finish is dominated by the cool notes of cucumber and watermelon rind.
Ballantine’s 21 Year Old is a premium blended Scotch whisky known for its rich and intense flavor profile. Introduced by master blender Jack Goudy in 1993, it features a high proportion of whiskies aged well beyond 21 years in European oak casks1.
Here are some key characteristics: Aroma: Honey sweetness with hints of apple and floral notes. Palate: Rich with flavors of liquorice and aromatic spices. Finish: Long and mellow with dried fruit notes
Finish: Woody, gourd, dark chocolate
The woody flavor and the cool gourd notes are short-lived. A sweet and bitter dark chocolate taste lingers, but not for long. The finish is short for its age.
