Aberlour 10-year-old (1980s):
This vintage Aberlour 10-year-old is remarkably different from its contemporary counterpart. While both versions combine ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, the late '80s bottling presents a much deeper and darker flavor profile. The sherry influence is significantly more prominent in this older bottling compared to current releases.
Some reviewers have noted that it has a rich, sweet nose with hints of oak, almond, vanilla, pepper, sherry, lemon, and peach. On the palate, it’s smooth and creamy, with plenty of oak, tingling sensations, tannins, sherry, and shortbread. The finish brings forth chocolate, pepper, cinnamon, and more sherry notes
Colour: Pure gold.
Nose: Lots of tropical fruits, mango, passion fruit, guava… Goes on with some eucalyptus, camphor, beeswax, wood polish… Very nice. Hints of sherry, walnuts, hot caramel. Very nice indeed!
Mouth: Very peppery and strong, even a little sharp. Lots of herbal tea, burnt bread, black toffee… Creme caramel, Irish coffee.
Rather long, creamy and heathery finish.
