1979 Auchroisk 26 Year Old Speyside

Colour: Full gold.

Nose: Coffeeish and fruity notes. Bold notes of torrefaction, dry tea leaves and nougat, then quite some rum and raisins and oaky . Same hints of strawberries… With a few drops of water. bring’s out nice whiffs of wet grass and hay, crushed leaves, green tea, chicory, mastic… Very nicely vegetal and herbal, with also a little tar.

Mouth (neat): Very malty again, grainy, getting really hot then. With water: that worked again but in a different direction, more on Xmas cake, dried oranges, black nougat and mocha (Irish coffee). Lots of presence.

Finish: Rather long, caramelly and dried figs. Very good but it really needs water.
