1970s Lochan Ora Whisky Liqueur Chivas Regal 5cl
Let’s delve into the intriguing world of Lochan Ora Whisky Liqueur from the 1970s, a delightful creation by Chivas Regal.
Lochan Ora is a renowned whisky liqueur, crafted using the even more famous Chivas Regal Scotch whisky as its base. This exquisite liqueur is infused with a secret blend of honey and a carefully guarded recipe of herbs and spices.
The first Chivas Regal blend was introduced by Chivas Brothers in 1909, establishing itself as a premium brand that swiftly gained popularity in the United States. Although Prohibition temporarily hindered its success a decade later, it also paved the way for Canadian distillers, Seagram, to become a dominant force in the North American drinks market. Seagram wasted no time in targeting Chivas Brothers when they entered the Scotch market, eventually acquiring the firm in 1949. This acquisition included adding Strathisla to their portfolio and constructing three additional distilleries. Over the years, they also acquired assets from Campbell Distillers and The Glenlivet Distillers, solidifying their position as one of Scotland’s largest whisky companies.
The Seagram empire eventually faced challenges and collapsed in the early 2000s. However, Pernod-Ricard stepped in, acquiring the Chivas Brothers arm along with Allied Domecq in a separate deal, which brought the iconic Ballantine’s brand into their fold. Today, Chivas produces two of the world’s top-selling blends, and its distillery portfolio, led by Glenlivet, rivals only that of Diageo.
The 1970s bottling of Lochan Ora, much beloved by connoisseurs, was unfortunately discontinued around 2008. If you’re fortunate enough to come across a bottle, cherish it as a piece of whisky history!
