1970s I.W. Harper 4 YO 5cl
I.W. Harper, a brand with a storied history, has recently made a comeback, thanks to global whiskey giant Diageo. Let’s delve into the tasting notes for both the I.W. Harper 4 - Year-Old bourbon.
I.W. Harper 4-Year-Old:
Age: 4 years.
Mash Bill: 86% Corn, 6% Rye, 8% Malted Barley.
ABV: 86 proof.
Appearance: Mahogany in color, with a distinctive square-shaped bottle.
Nose: Clean and pleasant, with notes of dried pine needles, dark chocolate, and cinnamon, along with a hint of resin and prune.
Palate: Consistent with the nose, it offers warming spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove), toasted grain, and eucalyptus. Remarkably buttery and smooth.
Colour: Amber.
Nose: Very brioche-like, not tired at all, marked by fudge and, of course, maple syrup. Delicate menthol notes quickly add to the mix, while the traditional coconut and vanilla notes have now perfectly melded into a whole that also exhales some almost malty and earthy touches. There is also a floral side that evokes mullein and woodruff. A very delicate bourbon.
Mouth: Not tired at all, the palate displays peanut butter and roasted hazelnuts, brown sugar, old Sauternes that has digested its sugars, and dark chocolate. Some notes of cappuccino and a small cup of chicory coffee complete the journey of this kind old and elegant bourbon that has tenderly crossed the decades.
Finish: Some hints of coconut and sweet grilled corn on the barbecue.
This showcase's the brand’s commitment to quality and flavor, the rich complexity of the 4 year-old, I.W. Harper has something to offer for bourbon enthusiasts.
